All About COTH

The purpose of this site is to expose the truth about COTH, a harmful religious institution that uses it's tax exempt status to indoctrinate people into its cult.

Church of the Highlands

Church of the Highlands (COTH) is a church known for covering up abuse and encouraging spiritual abuse. When people speak out against this church business, they are often ostracized and attacked by their peers at the church – those who believed in the “love” taught by the pastors and leaders. Recently, the church has been awarded $10 million after they were sued because someone brought forward an allegation of sexual assault against staff member Micahn Carter.

This is the most important part of the site to me. Religious Trauma is real. There is healing that you can find. Remember above all else: Hell & Jesus coming back are not real. Do not fear.Religious trauma occurs when a person’s religious experience is stressful, degrading, dangerous, abusive, or damaging. Traumatic religious experiences may harm or threaten to harm someone’s physical, emotional, mental, sexual, or spiritual health and safety.

Financials

You will be shutdown if you ask for pertinent financial information which every other non profit gladly shares. i.e. salaries of the highest paid pastors employees. If you review the financial reports it is interesting that the deferred compensation fund is worth millions of dollars given the fact that only senior pastors can contribute to this fund. There are only a handful of senior pastors.COTH takes in more than $142,123,521.64 in 2020 and spent $49,977,047.68 on services. Think of all the good that could be done in this world if even half of Sunday service fund was spent on helping people.

Chris Hodges started COTH in the early 2000's. A couple years prior to publishing books in his name he purchase a million dollar home in Birmingham. If being a pastor would have guaranteed me a million dollar home I would have gone down that road. One of the most problematic things I heard Chris Hodges say is 'When I found Christ they could have told me anything, I was all in. I never questioned it...I encourage that kind of attitude. He has been seen liking controversial ultra right wing posts on Instagram.

Dino Rizzo

Dino Rizzo started out as a pastor in Louisiana. He fraternized with one of his female employees and flew to COTH for a 12 month spiritual healing journey. At the end of this 12 month journey he bought a million dollar home a few doors down from his buddy Chris Hodges.Dino is also mentioned by name in a sexual harassment lawsuit against an ARC church.
